Gustav Klimt (Austria, 1862 – 1918) was born in the neighborhood of Vienna in a poor family. His father was a gold engraver. This may have influenced Klimt in his use of gold in his paintings. In 1876, Klimt was awarded a scholarship to the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts use of gold color, the spiral branches, the bird, circles that look like eyes.
